Complete Praise

Seven is the word for completion throughout scripture. In the Hebrew text, seven different words were used in relation to how we live lives of worship and praise. The video provided gives an overview. Give it a listen first before you read further.

Today, I’m addressing the Hebrew word, Barak.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Matthew 27:45-46 (NKJV)

Bowing/kneeling has always been a sign of submission to a governing leader. Even in today’s laid back world, people who enter the presence of the queen of England bow before her. It’s a sign of respect, honor, and submission.

Barak is a Hebrew lexicon that is rooted in submission. The word incapsulates bowing, kneeling, and saluting.

Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the Lord your God.” So all the assembly blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before the Lord and the king.

1 Chronicles 29:20 (NKJV)

Both times the word “bless” is used in this text, it’s translated from the Hebrew word, barak. King David, the king of Israel, was instructing his people to bow before God. The word “prostrated” means to be laid flat on the ground. Not just bent over, but laid out flat.

When was the last time you bowed your head to God? Not sitting at the table. Not while someone else was praying. When was the last time you lowered yourself as an act of honor and submission to God’s will? When we align our physical bodies to what we are seeking in our spirits, new doors are opened. New victories can be won.

I leave you with King David’s words. Bless the Lord your God. Bow your head. Prostrate yourself before your Lord and King.
