Gracious God

The more we understand the grace of God, the more freely we will pray. So often we confuse conviction from God with shame from the enemy. Here’s a simple reminder:

FROM GOD:
conviction, action, changed behavior, pulls you higher, drawn to God

FROM THE ENEMY:
shame, inaction, behavior stays the same or worsens, pushes you lower, drawn away from God

When we feel condemned, the problem is not as much our sinfulness as it is our understanding of God’s grace. Your prayer life is not lacking because you don’t pray; you my friend, might be suffering from an anemic understanding of God’s amazing grace.

Debbie Lindell (book-She Prays)

Conviction is uncomfortable. It is uncomfortable for a reason. Instead of running away from that discomfort and from the truth of our poor actions and inadequacies, focus on the grace that God lavishes on us in that moment. Turn to Him instead of yourself.

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.

Psalm 145:8-9, NKJV
