Where Do You Bank?

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV)

Jesus called our focus from the carnal and temporal, to the eternal. Our investments (not just financial) are to be Kingdom investments. Our finances, our time, our relationships… but also our hope, trust, and purpose.

As Christ followers, we shouldn’t be making investments into earthly banks. Not just because those investments are subject to corruption, but because earthly investments are ultimately a waste of our time and energy. Our lives are no longer ours, right?

It’s not a matter of “what” we’re investing in as much as it is a matter of “why”. Making money is a good thing, but why are we seeking financial gain? Everything we invest ourselves in must be filtered through the “why”. What bank is the investment going in?
