When There’s No Words

Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power.

Psalm 21:13 (NKJV)

“Praise” in the above text has a very specific meaning in the original Hebrew. When King David was writing this text, he used the Hebrew word, Zamar. Zamar is the last of the seven Hebrew words I’ve been writing about.

Zamar means, “to pluck the strings of an instrument, to sing, to praise”. It’s a musical word which is largely involved with joyful expressions of music with musical instruments. Whether it’s musical or vocal, zamar praise is a melodic offering that may or may not have words. If you’re playing an instrument, or using your voice as one, you can offer God zamar praise. No lyrics are required.
