Verbal Plenary Inerrancy

I wanted to take some time today to consider what many theologians call verbal plenary inerrancy. Verbal plenary inerrancy is the belief that all the Bible is inspired down to the very words of Scripture. There is a constant onslaught of attacks upon God’s word today. Much of them from secular circles, but not exclusively.

We must not forget the role of the church in this regard. We have played God, cherry-picked scriptures for our benefit, and questioned the validity of anything that called us to righteous living. Doing so has hung the Gospel on the backdrop of hyper individualism, of which the gospel was never meant to hang. We have prioritized relative truth over absolute. We have rejected the Bible as our teacher while gaining knowledge from it that does not edify our spirit but gratifies our flesh. The church has assisted in substantiating the claim that scripture is not without error. When we question its truthfulness in one part, it causes us to question it in all parts. God said what He said, and He meant what He meant. The Word of God is not some pair of pants we alter to better fit our life, but rather it is us who are altered by His Word.
