The Prayer of a Righteous Person

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

James 5:13-16,

Question: What is a righteous person?

The Greek definition is;

1. Righteous, observing divine laws; in a wide sense, upright, righteous, virtuous, keeping the commands of God.

2. Innocent, faultless, guiltless

3. Approved of or acceptable of God

I understand that our salvation is by grace alone, through faith (Eph.2:8), and that is our inheritance to heaven when we leave this world. But, when it comes to answering our prayers, according to the Apostle James, there’s more involved than grace alone. It speaks of constancy and assurance in what we believe and in who we believe in.

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
