The Home Circle

John 19:25-27 “Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.”

Recently I heard about a man who was approaching the end of his life due to cancer. He stated that he was ready to go, but wasn’t ready to leave his loved ones. Since I’m 68 years old this got me thinking, am I ready to leave my loved ones behind when it’s time for me to go?

As seen in the Bible Scripture above, Jesus dealt with the same situation, but I don’t believe He was worried about those He was leaving behind. He intentionally let His mother know who He entrusted for her welfare. He had such a good relationship with John that He trusted him to care for His mother. I don’t believe there were any senior citizen centers at that time in which His mother could live out the rest of her life. So, John took her home with him and the rest of his family, who would be responsible for her.

The point here is that even Jesus made preparations for His loved ones before He left this world. Why? Because He loved her.

Proverbs 23:22 “Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”
