The Anointing Salve

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”

2 Timothy 4:3, KJV

Salve: “an ointment used to promote healing of the skin or as protection.” “soothe (wounded pride or one’s conscience).”

Having just come through a presidential election, this verse came to mind. It would seem that there are a lot of people who get upset when they don’t get what they want. I suppose it all starts with the information we want to hear. Today, if we don’t like what we’re hearing from the various information platforms where we get our daily news, we simply change the channel or click a button.

This mind-set says that if we don’t like something we can simply ignore it. Such as our job, marriage, church, friends, (unfriend) etc. It seems to be a ‘sign of the times’ and was predicted in the Bible. But the next verse is the extra scary part.

“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

2 Timothy 4:4, KJV

The Bible also says that Jesus is the “Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.” (John 14:6)

So, do we seek truth or fables?
