Superior Seeking

Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

John 6:26-27

Throughout the gospels we see people encountering Jesus and experiencing the benefits of His presence while He walked the earth.  Jesus knew exactly what was in the heart of men. Carnally, that usually includes seeking for selfish gain or at the minimum acting on a strong survival instinct and trying to scratch and claw to acquire worldly goods out of desperation. Jesus is challenging these people to a superior seeking; not just to seek Him for their carnal needs, but rather to seek Him for their spiritual needs.  How often are we “blessed” by some worldly comfort and become so enthralled that we got it, that we forsake the one who gave it and drift away from the true treasure which God wants us to have?  Lord, help us not to be content to seek You for the things which rust and fade away, but to seek You and Your Kingdom above all else, which endures forever.
