Rose Colored Glasses

Truly God is good to Isreal, to those who are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. 3 For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Psalm 73:1-3 ESV

Envy. The ugly green monster that hides in the corner of every humble Christian’s heart. Envy will creep in and tell you that just one sin won’t be too bad. Envy will steal your joy and peace faster than you can say it. Envy is the enemy’s best tool to let you know that being a follower of the one true God isn’t worth it and if you put down your cross and walk in the carnal world your life could look like the Jones’.

Through rose colored glasses I had coveted the rich and famous for years. I told myself if I could just get famous my life would be easier and therefore I would be happier. I saw stuff and said ‘that’s where my true joy lives’. My world was a rosy hue of lies and envy orchestrated by the enemy to keep me from living a humble christian lifestyle.

The enemy will tempt you with stuff. But at the end of the day, that’s all it is… stuff. Material possessions and fame isn’t the life we are called to live as christians and therefore should not be what we seek. Seek Him above all else and you shall be handsomely rewarded in heaven. Seek His face. Seek His voice. Seek his touch. Seek Him. And when you think you found Him… keep seeking.
