Procrastination Exposed!

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Proverbs 13:4

Have you ever heard someone say “I’m just a procrastinator”? “I work well under pressure, so I put stuff off to the last minute.” Have you used statements like these? Procrastination is something we view as a personality trait instead of what it really is, bad behavior.

You’re not ok with someone justifying lying by saying, “That’s just the way I am.” You’re not ok with a thief. You’re not ok with someone who is abusive in any form. Why is it we justify laziness?

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

Colossians 3:23-25

Here’s what’s really ironic about this devotion. I’m writing it a day after my deadline to turn it in. It was due yesterday. Today I’ve also been aggravated with a friend who pretty regularly changes plans last minute. I don’t like feeling that my time isn’t valuable. That’s what procrastination does. It devalues other people’s time. It’s not a personality trait, it’s bad behavior.

If you regularly procrastinate getting things done and/or make others have to constantly amend their schedule because of your poor planning, stop it. Stop making excuses.
