Part 1: Wait for the Wave

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:4-5

Jesus spent three years equipping His disciples with many tools and preparations prior to His resurrection and even gave them a specific and broad commission to “Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded…(Matthew 28:19-20).  They even got an additional 40 days by which Jesus gave them final preparations before He ascended into the heavens. He left knowing He had given them a set of skills and knowledge in the natural world. And then He asks them to WAIT. Don’t set out for the far reaches of the world, but stay in place, He says. The Holy Spirit will baptize you and then you’ll know your course.

Do you find it hard to wait upon the Lord?  I’ll bet the disciples did! Stay tuned for a peek into what MIGHT have happened if the disciples had not waited for the Holy Spirit…
