No Sacred Cows

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23

Ever heard of a sacred cow? Ever had one? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, google it. : )

In the above text, the Apostle Paul lays the groundwork for a very important principle in the church. We don’t have room for sacred cows. We can’t become so attached to a method, that the ministry begins to suffer. I’ve seen this over and over in the church. Whether it’s the style of the worship music, how loud the preacher gets, the color of paint in the lobby… if you can imagine it, someone in western church culture has argued about it.

What are YOU holding sacred? Is there something in your life that is taking priority over the gospel? Loosen up. Take a deep breath and chill out for a minute. Is the issue that’s captivating your mind really that important

There’s no room for sacred cows.
