No Darkness At All

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:5-7

“God loves you just the way you are.”
“God is proud of you.”
Statements like these are dangerous, as they imply God doesn’t expect anything from us after we have submitted to Jesus as Lord. Surrendering your life to Christ does not remove sin from your life; it simply provides forgiveness from sin. The issue with the above quotes lies within 1 John 1:5-7 and many other scriptures like it. Submitting to Christ as Lord is the starting line in living your life unto Christ, not the finish line.

Do you remember the early 2000’s popular saying, “Jesus is my homeboy”? Following this lousy theology (Jesus is not your homeboy, He’s your Lord) is this idea that God loves me just as I am. Because of Jesus, I am free from any judgment. I can do what I want. This ideology is dangerous because it’s far from biblical.

If you are in Christ, there should be evidence of Christ’s light (holiness) in your life. In Him, there is no darkness at all. You cannot have fellowship with Christ and walk in darkness (sin). Does that mean you lose Christ when you make a mistake? Not at all! However, there’s a big difference between making a mistake and WALKING (knowingly doing something) in darkness.

In Him, there is NO darkness at all!
