My Friend

The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.

Psalm 37:23, NLT

My perspective on prayer is growing and ever changing. It’s easy to hear others pray and compare our simple prayers and simple words to their descriptive, intimate and fancy way of speaking to God. Stop comparing!

In Psalm 37 above, we read that God DELIGHTS in every detail of our lives. First of all, what a wonderful concept to contemplate… God delighting over us!

I’m attempting to grow in more casual prayers as if speaking to a friend, catching up over a cup of coffee. Sure He already knows it all, but when we seek Him, special things happen.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.

Genesis 3:8a, NKJV

If we step back to the beginning, we can see the true hopes of God’s interactions with us. Adam had full access and communion with God in the garden. God walked among them. We can only assume this is God’s desire for our interactions with Him. Intimacy. Friendship. Casualness. (This does not mean without reverence, for He is holy.)

When we focus on only one aspect of God, we are limiting Him and taking away His God-ness. He is Lord. He is Creator. He is Judge. He is Friend… and many, many, more!
