Make Disciples

We live at a time where preferential energies are expended for the sake of evangelistic exploits. Alter calls, salvific prayers, and echolalic incantations tend to be the preferred substitute to the great commission given to us by our Lord.

We have turned a deaf ear to the words Jesus spoke to his disciples in Matthew 28:17–20, “‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”

Many churches have surrendered their call to make disciples for a substitutional interest in forming converts. This blatant refusal to submit to the great commission is likely, self-indulgence masquerading itself as spirituality. Obstinate dismissal to God’s commission produces rebellion in the hearts of the men we lead. Let us not encourage anarchy by and through our disobedience. If we are to create followers of Christ, submission to His call unto the making of disciples should be uttermost.
