Devotions

Lovers of God

1 The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

Acts 1:1-3 (NKJV)

Luke gives us the secret to the book of Acts in the first verse. We discover that this book is not for everybody. It was not written for all of you reading this devotion today. This book was certainly not written for the masses of mankind. It was written for Theophilus.

  • Theo, meaning God.
  • Philus, coming from the Greek word phileo, meaning to love.

This book was written to lovers of God. It belongs to the lovers of God. If you are not a lover of God, this book will confuse you. It will challenge you to the deepest core of your being and drive you away from faith rather than closer.

Read with caution and examine your heart before engaging the book of Acts.
