Know Who You Proclaim

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

1 John 1

It is so important that we know that which we proclaim, and that which we proclaim is accurate and true.  If I overheard my husband introducing me to one of his co-workers and I heard him say, “My wife’s name is Ebony.  She’s 6’4, loves music (and especially country music) and is a pet vet” I would look at him like he had gone to crazy town!! Yes, you got my name right, but all those other things you attributed to me are just not so. Maybe there’s some other Ebony in the world who looks like that, but it’s not me.

I have heard so many people PROCLAIM the name of Jesus, but attribute characteristics to Him that are completely inaccurate, or contain only half-truths about who He is.  If the things you attach to the name of Jesus are inaccurate, then you are not proclaiming Jesus at all.

So, how can you know if you are truly proclaiming Jesus, the Son of God?  You’ve got to get into the Word of God and really learn about who Jesus truly is and what He has done, is doing and will do.  Don’t just take someone’s word for who Jesus is, take the time to know who you proclaim.
