Just Like Dad

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

1 John 3:4-9 (NKJV)

Kids want to be like their parents. A friend of mine posted on her social media earlier this week regarding this fact. “Most of the time I’m proud of my kids. But when I’m not, it’s because I taught them that their behavior was OK. I didn’t teach them that by telling them, I taught them that by living it!” Kids are always watching the words and actions of their parents. They want to be just like us. My nine year old daughter wants to be a worship pastor when she grows up. Why? Because she wants to be like me.

This same principle is supposed to apply to our relationship with Christ. To be in Christ should drive an inner desire to be like Him. How are you becoming more like Christ today? What things are the Holy Spirit drawing out of you? Look back at your life a year ago. How have you changed?

As spiritual children, we should always want to be more like our Dad.
