Jesus, the Master Interpreter

“So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”” John 4:46-48 NKJV

I have talked to so many believers who are afraid to pray. They get hung up on not knowing the “right words” or have a fear they will do it wrong. Rest assured, God is much bigger than your words and your fears!

If you haven’t already, read the passage above from John about the nobleman who comes to Jesus. He traveled around 20 miles to plead with Jesus to heal his son. There is no doubt he has come to the right place. We are to lay our needs down before Jesus. He wants to help. But there is something so much deeper happening in this simple exchange.

Jesus has a way at seeing past our words and into our greatest needs. The nobleman was asking for healing for his son, but Jesus saw a greater need in his heart…he needed to believe in Jesus. Even though he knew Jesus was the way and even though he was brave enough to vocalize his need, Jesus always sees more. He sees to the core of who we are. He is a master interpreter of our needs.

So don’t get hung up on which eloquent words to use in your prayers. Just get real with God. Let Him see all of you. He is a God of more. Jesus did heal the nobleman’s son, but He also restored his belief which was an even greater feat.
