Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalm 127:1 ESV
The Lord builds His church. We are called to be tools, instruments for Him to use to do HIS building. “Those who build it labor in vain.” We are not called to build. We are called to be tools.
I have seen many seek to do great things in Jesus’ name that the Lord never instructed them to do. It’s vain labor. I have been guilty of this myself in different seasons of my life and ministry. We don’t have any business seeking to accomplish things the Holy Spirit hasn’t directed. Even Jesus, in all His authority, submitted to the voice of His Father (John 8:28).
We’ve got to stop doing things “in Jesus’ name” and just be quiet and listen for when the Lord speaks.
