Halal: “Un-Kingly”

As we continue into week 5 of this worship series, please enjoy the following contribution from Tyler Yager, one of my fellow worship leaders.

Halal: “Un-Kingly” — Unrestrained, unapologetic authentic praise.

When I think of clamorous worship before God, I can’t help but think of King David. In 2 Samuel Chapter 6, we see a lot of King David. The people of Jerusalem may have seen more than they bargained for. *wink*

Sometimes I’ve just got to shake it loose. When I catch a glimpse of the Lord, something stirs in my Spirit. Even baby John jumped in his mama’s belly when he got close to Jesus. It’s built in to who we are. When I get near the Father, I have to jump too.

“And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord —and I will celebrate before the Lord.”

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭6:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

David celebrated the Lord unapologetically. Even when he was accused of being “un-kingly”. He showed no remorse for his actions when giving glory to God. He didn’t care who was watching or who might think he was “over enthusiastic”. He was in his Father’s gaze and that’s all that mattered.

David showed me that even a king can praise the King of all. However “un-kingly” that may look.
