Desensitized

“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a reprobate mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.”

Romans 1:28-32

Did You Know?

Physical desensitizing is something that biologists have long been aware of. Basic training in the armed forces tries to desensitize new recruits to pain. We can desensitize ourselves to the summer heat by turning off the air conditioning, or become desensitized to the cold by walking barefoot in the snow. But desensitizing is more often used when talking about negative emotions. Parents worry that their children will be desensitized to violence by playing video games. Soldiers may become desensitized to death on the battlefield. Desensitizing may be natural and desirable under some circumstances, but not so good in others.

Circumstances, such as violent video games, violence in the news, or movies, etc. or perhaps it’s the nudity, and pornography that we have easy access to, make it increasingly easy to become desensitized.

“To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled.”

Titus 1:15

A few warning signs of a reprobate mind.

1.  Bible scriptures no longer convict you (compels you to acknowledge your errors).

2.  Your conscious no longer convicts you (you become numb to the things of God).

3.  Starts losing the ability to discern between right and wrong.

4.  Starts calling evil good and good evil.

5.  Have ignored the voice of God so long that the voice of the Holy Spirit is on mute in your life.

6.  The word of God is no longer the final authority in your life; it has lost its value in your life and you do what you feel is right vs. what God’s word states.

Once you become desensitized to something, is it possible to reverse the process or are you basically scarred for life?

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1John 1:9
