So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Paul is teaching us that although we may suffer in this world now, it is not to be of concern. When the Lord returns, it is not this body and flesh and things of the world we will take with us into eternity. But things unseen, will we carry with us into eternity and therefore we must not focus on things we can gauge through our five senses. Focusing on the flesh only leads us away from God and His mercies. God will bring you through it, not in your time, but in His.
