The following words (typos and all!) are the deep thoughts of a 10-year old child of God I just happened to see typed up on my computer this evening. I just had to share this because it’s FUNNY! (Don’t rat me out for sharing!! I can tell there’s a lot more on her mind, and I can’t wait to see what else she thinks there’s more to life than…) But there’s also some Godly wisdom to be found in this short, deep thought.
There is more to life than …
Make up: girls and guys have a hard time seeing that make up isn’t everything. I’m not saying make up is bad thing but, I think MOST of us use too much make up and the average person spends 5 – 60 minutes putting on make up daily. Other people have more time to EAT or GET READY for WORK/ SCHOOL. But I’m also not saying that people who use time in THEIR day to put on a lot of make up are sinners because there not. Trust me. All I’m saying is put less make up on but, if there is like a performance, a dance, or any SPECAIL occasion. BE YOURSELF!
I love that my beloved daughter is beginning to see behind some of the lies that are immersed in a skin-deep, beauty driven culture that swims all around her. The fact that she mentions “sinners” also leads me to believe that she is trying to discern that some choices and behaviors can be made in even the simplest areas to either glorify God or not. (I’m glad she’s come to the conclusion that wearing make-up isn’t a full-blown sin because OUCH. Mama’s not throwing out her LipSense…) Is she really recognizing that even something as small as the preoccupation of a personal beauty ritual could become an idol in our lives? Lastly, I love that she says “Be Yourself” and hope that what she ultimately means is “Be yourself: The person God designed and made you to be; and let that be enough for you.”
Here’s a few scriptures to remind you of what God says about such things:
Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30 NKJV
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25 NKJV
Each person should test their own work and be happy with doing a good job and not compare themselves with others. Galatians 6:4 CEB
