Have you ever been a part of something huge? I remember, as a boy, attending an event with my dad called Promise Keepers. It was a huge rally of Christian men. Hundreds of thousands of men gathered together in Washington D.C. for praise and worship, spiritual growth, and community. The crowd spread from the Washington Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. I’ve never seen such a huge crowd… or heard so many baritones singing!
Most of the time, we lose sight of the truth of how big the Church is. The capital “C” church. Not the local church you attend on Sundays, but THE church. The Bride of Christ. It’s easy to forget the brothers and sisters in Christ all around the world who are fighting the good fight of faith. It’s big.
We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God’s people, 5 which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News. 6 This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.
I read this scripture earlier this week and was led by the Holy Spirit to pray. I prayed, not just for my church, but THE church. I prayed for the other local churches in my community and beyond. I prayed for other church pastors I’m friends with, but seldom stop to pray for their specific needs.
As Christians, we can easily become guilty of wearing blinders and only seeing what’s directly affecting us. We need to pause and take off the blinders. It’s bigger than me… It’s bigger than you.
